On a cold and rainy Saturday, a small group of Eagles did very well in the Willow Glen track invitational. The varsity relay squad of Andrew Chen, Anton Novikov, Mitch Granados and Gio Rofa were ranked 7th, but finished an impressive 3rd to medal in the pouring rain. Erica and Teresa Kai sprinted through the rain to set personal bests in the mile runs, and Natasha Matta won her heat in the 100m dash. Ayush Vyas set a personal best in the shot out, tossing it 35'1.5".
Upper School Athletics Schedule
Many young Eagles led the team in their first league meet of the year. Frosh Natasha Matta and Alexa Lowe competed like veterans, Natasha winning her two first-ever hurdle races, Alexa won her race in the 800m and came within one foot of the school record in her first triple jump of the year.Senior Ayush Vyas won both the shot put, a new personal best, and the discus throw. The 400m relay team set a fine early season mark, winning with a team of Frosh Andrew Chen, Anton Novikov, Mitchel Granados, Gio Rofa. Novikov took second in the 100m and 200m. Frosh Brittany Shou set a personal best in the discus with a toss of 60'9". Ryan Adolf and Frosh Ashley Barth ran the fastest mile runs for the Eagles.
A few Eagles did a fine job at the elite St Francis Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore Anton Novikov placed 2nd against 28 top notch frosh-soph sprinters in the 100m run, becoming the 3rd best all time soph at Harker. Natasha Motta and Gio Rofa ran well in their 100m hurdles and 100m run.In the distance Medley relay, Aditya Singhvi, Alex Rule, Arya Maheshwari and Ryan Adolf placed in the top 20 with the 2nd best all time Eagle mark.
Zoey Rosa, grade 11, set a school record in the demanding 400m hurdles on Saturday at DeAnza College. Alexa Lowe, grade 9, set a frosh school record with her 15’1.5? long jump. The boys 4x100m relay team medalled for the second week in a row, improving their season’s best of 46.03, placing second in the varsity boys race. Gio Rofa, grade 11, and Andrew Chen, grade 9, both went past 17' in the long jump. Nikki Solanki, grade 11, returned to her usual good form, winning her heat in the 100m, running under 14 seconds.
Sophomore Anton Novikov posted two wins and one second place finish at King's Academy on Tuesday. His winning time, into a head wind, in the 100m was 10.904......2nd place was 10.905. The boy's 400m relay team improved their hold on the #2 spot in the league with an improvement to 45.82, with the team of Andrew Chan, Anton Novikov, Mitch Granados and Gio Rofa. Gio and Andrew placed 1st and 2nd in the triple jump, their first meet ever in this event. Freshman Alexa Lowe continued her attack on the school record with a 32' 8" triple jump performance. Freshman Erica Can won her race in the mile run in 6:22; Freshman Ashley Barth placed third in her heat breaking 6:00 for the first time, running 5:58. Kismet Singh and Zoey Rosa sprinted to a 2nd and 3rd place finish in the 100m hurdles, with season best marks.
The Eagle track team set many personal bests in their Firebird Invitational track meet last Saturday. The boys 400m relay team continues to drop their league #2 time, this time running a 45.69, .03 sec from a victory. Their time is the 6th best all time Harker mark. Anton Novikov lowered his sophomore school record in the 100m dash, 11.53, the 7th best all time varsity Harker sprint time.Freshmen Rithika Rajamani, Ashley Barth and Erica Cai placed 3rd, 4th and 5th in the frosh-soph 2 mile run, posting the 6th, 7th and 9th best Harker all time marks in their event. Their combined times won the team 2 mile event. Freshman Bayden Yazalina won his heat in the 400m run. Aditya Singhvi turned in the 6th best ever Harker 2 mile run completing his race in 11:02.
Freshmen Alexa Lowe and Andrew Chen each had outstanding performances in their 100m and long jump events on Saturday. Both set personal bests in their long jumps. Freshman Brittany Shou threw her personal best in the discus, improving by 4 feet to 64' 7". Zoey Rosa ran both the 100m and 300m hurdles, where she set a new personal best.
The Eagle track team recorded 27 season bests yesterday in their meet at Menlo College. Anton Novikov won the 100m and ran the 2nd lego in the victorious 400 m relay, Gio Rofa won the triple jump and anchored the 400m relay to their win. The boys 400m relay moved back into the 2nd ranked spot in the league, ahead of Sacred Heart Prep. Sara Min was also a double winner, capturing her race in the 100m and 200m runs. In the triple jump, Gio and Andrew Chen jumped season bests and now rank 1-2 in the league.
Brittany Shou set a new 9th grade Harker record in both the shot put and discus. Alexa Lowe established a new Harker frosh record in both the long jump and the triple jump, her triple jump mark of 32'8" is now the 2nd best all time Harker mark, only 14" behind the school record. Surya Gudapati was a winner in his section in the 400m run. Ayush Vyas threw for 2nd place in the shot put and discus.Freshman Natasha Matta came within .4 seconds of the Harker record in the 100m hurdles, but set a new freshman school record with her time.
Harker set 14 personal bests in Saturday night's Soquel Invitational. Zoey Rosa led the team with a win in her race in the 100m hurdles, and a 2nd place run in the 300m hurdles, both personal bests. Giovanni Rofa soared to a new PR in the triple jump, with a league leading 36'8.5" jump to win the competition, Andrew Chen was 3rd. Alexa Lowe was 3rd in the girl's triple jump. Mitchel Granados won his 100m race with a thrilling lean at the finish line with his season best 11.91. Ayush Vyas continued his streak of personal bests with his 108'10" discus throw.
The varsity track teams passed most of their tests in the league championship trials on Tuesday. Natasha Matta, Zoey Rosa and Kismet Singh each qualified for the 8 person final in the 100m hurdles; Rosa also qualified in the 300m hurdles. Anton Novikov and Mitch Granados fought a strong head wind to reach the final in the 100m. Henry Wong came up big with a 2:12 800m run to make the championship race. Alexa Lowe jumped 14'7" in the long jump to move on to Friday's finals. Several athletes and the relay teams did not have prelims and advanced straight to the Friday championship contests.
Rithika Rajamani, Ashley Barth and Erica Cai qualified for the final in the JV 1600 run; then came back later on a cold night to place 2,3,4 in the JV 3200m finals held that night, all in personal bests.
Freshman Alexa Lowe is the league champion in the triple jump, upsetting 4 others that had been favored ahead of herr. Gio Rofa (triple jump) and Ayush "Mr. League Meet" Vyas (shot put) placed second and will be competing in next Saturday's CCS trials.
