Upper School Athletics Schedule
The Harker baseball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-2 win over Trinity Christian of Monterey Friday on the Blackford campus. Senior Dominic Cea was lights out on the mound striking out 13 and allowing just 3 hits and 1 run in 5 innings of work. He also went 3 for 4 at the plate, driving in a run. The Eagles trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th when senior Matthew Kennedy ripped a three run home run to right field, giving Harker a 3-1 lead it would never relinquish. The three run homer was Kennedy’s second one in two games, having hit a three run homer in Wednesday’s win over San Jose High. The Eagles scored 4 times in the 5th to erase a 1-0 deficit, then added 3 more in the 6th to seal the win. Harker will next be in action on Tuesday when it travels to Menlo to take on the two time defending CCS Champion Knights. First pitch is set for 3:30pm.
Dom Cea was dominant on the mound for the Eagles. The senior didn’t allow a hit through 7 innings as the game went to extra innings tied 2-2. Independence then rallied for 6 runs in the 8th to break open a tight game.
The Harker baseball team opened Peninsula League play with a 9-3 win at Crystal Springs on Monday. Senior Dominic Cea was stellar on the mound for the Eagles, allowing just one earned run and striking out 12 in going the distance for his second win of the season. Cea also had a big day at the plate, collecting two hits and driving in five runs including a bases loaded triple that broke the game open late. In addition Sophomore Max Lee had 3 hits and senior Matthew Kennedy added two more while scoring 4 runs to help pace the Eagle offense.
The Harker baseball team improved to 2-0 in league play with a 17-2 win over Westmoor on Tuesday. Freshman Nick Coulter had a 2 run double and sophomore Max Lee drove in three runs as the Eagles plated 13 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to break open a scoreless game. Senior Matt Kennedy allowed just 1 hit over four innings to pick up the win.
The Harker Varsity Baseball team earned a huge win on the road Tuesday, knocking off league rival Mills 3-1 in 8 innings. Pitching was the story of the day for the Eagles as seniors Matthew Kennedy and Dom Cea along with junior Trevor Thompson combined to allow just 4 hits and 1 unearned run in 8 innings of work. Kennedy went the first five innings, striking out 4 and allowing just two hits before departing in a 1-1 game. Cea relieved Kennedy after a leadoff walk in the 6th and promptly threw 2 and 2/3 innings of shutout ball, highlighted by Cea getting out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the bottom of the 7th inning to send the game into extra innings. In the top of the 8th, Harker plated two runs to break the tie. Kennedy hit a sacrifice fly to score junior Zach Hoffman with the go ahead run. Cea later drove home the third run of the game with a single to right. Earlier, the Eagles had jumped to a 1-0 lead with two outs in the first inning when freshman Nick Coulter singled home senior Eric Andrus. Mills later tied the game with an unearned run in the third. Harker and Mills will square off again in another huge league showdown (the second of three meetings this season)
