Summer @ The Conservatory

Summer @ The Conservatory classes develop self-confidence and responsibility, personal and artistic expression, listening and awareness, stage presence, creativity and teamwork. Preparation like this is invaluable not only to prepare participants for performing arts courses and auditions, but to help students succeed in their academic coursework as well.

Conservatory Courses & Dates

Conservatory Presents (Grades 5-9)

July 19-Aug. 6, Mon.-Fri. | 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Fee: $1,275 (Lunch included)

This course is designed for incoming grade 6-9 students who have a love for theater. The focus will be on morning technique classes with a variety of required and elective courses, and afternoon rehearsals for a performance in the Rothschild Performing Arts Center. Students also get to experience workshops with accomplished industry professionals in varying topics such as Voiceover Acting or Musical Theatre Dance. In addition, a Leadership in Training program is being developed for high school students wishing to intern, stage manage or assistant direct.

There will be an evening performance on Fri., Aug. 6.

SECRETS OF SCREEN ACTING, THREE DAY (GRADES 5-12)

June 28 – 30 I 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Fee: $675 (Lunch included)

Dreaming of becoming the next Milly Bobby Brown? Or following in the footsteps of Aidan Gallagher? They make being a screen actor look so joyful and effortless. Surely that’s something you can do, too, right? Learn the tricks of the trade in a fun-filled, fast-paced three-day workshop led by Tanna Herr and Tony Kienitz of A Theatre Near U. Steeped in film industry expertise themselves, Tanna and Tony will happily introduce you to the skills and performance nuances you’ll need along your way to becoming a quality young talent.

In this course you will learn:

  • Techniques for a stellar audition/self-tape
  • Knockout cold reads
  • The secret smile
  • Face-framing
  • Acting with the eyes
  • Actions to take before, “Action!”
  • Screenplay dissection/scene work
  • … and a master technique that all great actors have used before you.

Actors in this workshop can expect to finish with a headshot and a short-filmed piece. Spaces limited. First-come first-served!

Conservatory Intensive (Grades 9-12)

Registration by audition only.

July 19-Aug. 6, Mon.-Fri. | 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Fee: $1,275 (Lunch included)

By audition only, this intensive is designed for rising 9th-12th graders passionate about expanding their knowledge of theater in both the classroom and through a live one-act performance at the end of the program in our state-of-the-art theater. Students will have morning classes in advanced acting techniques led by industry professionals both from the Bay Area as well as workshops led by television and/or movie actors and directors. This course is meant to further the education gained in The Conservatory Presents and students will be required to have attend this course - or a similar one in the area - prior to auditioning for Conservatory Intensive.
