Applying to Harker
We appreciate your interest in The Harker School, and we look forward to sharing more about our warm, inspiring and vibrant community with you and your family.
Our standard points of entry are kindergarten and grades 3, 6 and 9. New students may enter Harker at all grade levels except grade 12. In grades 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11 the number of openings depends on attrition and there are usually more qualified applicants than spaces.
After much consideration and thoughtful planning, Harker has made the tough decision to phase out our preschool program to make room for the move of our middle school to the Union Avenue campus in fall 2021. For the 2020-21 school year we are only accepting applications for our Transitional Kindergarten program. If your child will be 5 between July 1, 2020 - and November 30, 2020, we encourage you to apply for transitional kindergarten (TK)
We invite you to submit an inquiry and create an account on Ravenna. Harker has partnered with Ravenna Solutions, a very user-friendly application, that streamlines the admission process for our families. Through your Ravenna account, you will be able to receive notifications from Harker, register for Harker admission events, and apply and track your progress toward application completion.

The entrance exam is just one component we use to evaluate an application. At Harker we value all facets of a student and take into consideration many aspects beyond a test score, such as interests, character and love of learning when evaluating for admission. We use standardized testing as common assessment tool because applicants come from a wide variety of academic programs.
International students applying to The Harker School must meet the same admission standards as domestic students, and successfully complete all stages of the highly selective admission process. We do not have a separate pool for international applicants. Harker has a very rigorous academic program, and all students must be fluent in reading, writing and speaking English. Unless a student has been attending a school where their courses are taught in English, it is unlikely that they would qualify.
While Harker does not offer ESL curriculum during the regular school year, we do offer a robust English Language Institute in the summer. For more information, visit our ELI website or contact ELI@harker.org.
We expect that the majority of places for fall will be filled by candidates who make the January deadlines and regular acceptance announcement in March. We may have the opportunity to extend offers of admission to a few individuals who complete their files after the regular deadline. These acceptance decisions will be made on a rolling basis and will depend on available space. Please contact us if you have any questions.
