Thomas "Thomas" Artiss
Canadian native Thomas Artiss came to Harker in 2012, after having taught biology, anatomy and physiology, science and forensic science at schools in cities as varied as Pebble Beach, Calif., Seattle, Wash., and Nicholasville, Ky. He chaired the science department at two of those schools, and has also assistant coached varsity girls volleyball and JV girls basketball.
Dr. Artiss was recently named Outstanding Biology Teacher of the Year for California by the National Association of Biology Teachers, and in 2013 was awarded the Most Promising New Teacher Award by the Synopsys Championship. He was twice nominated for a Presidental Award for Excellence in Math and Science, and was selected teacher of the year in 2009 at his school in Kentucky. He received a Sigma Xi Grant in Aid of Research and was a Smithsonian Graduate Fellow.
