Gloria Guo and Kismet Singh were individual winners of their races, the 400m and the 100m hurdles respectively. Grace Koonmen and Guo now rank #3 and #4 on the all-time 400m Harker list. Angel Cervantes ran lifetime bests in his 100m and 200m races. Grace ran a 200m race that put her #2 on the all time Harker list. Rishi Chopra ran his best half mile of the season, moving into the Harker top 10 list in the 800m.
Upper School Athletics Schedule
The Eagles dominated most events in the WBAL #2 meet at Bellarmine Wednesday. The meet began with the boys and girls 400m relay wins. The girls team of Grace Koonmen, Gloria Guo, Nikki Solanki and Alycia Cary set a new school record. Davis Dunaway won the 100m dash and the 300m hurdles, both into strong winds. In the 100m, the Eagles took the first 5 places, 2-5 were Angel Cervantes, Mitchel Granados, Sameer Prakash and Marcus Tymous. Andy Koonmen won the boys 3200m run. Nikki Solanki set a new personal best in the 100m, running into a strong wind, she ran 13.95. Niki Iyer won the girls 1600m race in 5:10. Kismet Singh won the girls 100m hurdles, followed closely by Lily Anderson and Nikki Solanki for a 1-2-3 sweep. Davis Howard won the shot put and discus throw.
At San Mateo High School on Saturday, Grace Koonmen, Gloria Guo, Nikki Solanki and Alycia Cary broke their own school record again in the 400m relay, running a 52.94, the #3 time in the league.. The boys team of Angel Cervantes, Davis Dunaway, Mitch Granados and Anthony Contreras lowered their best in the 400m relay, running 45.57, the fastest Harker relay time in 5 years, and the top time in the league to date. Anthony Contreras ran the second fastest times in the league with his 200m and 400m races.Dunaway added a season best in the long jump and pole vault. His pole vault mark is the best in the league. Anthony Contreras ran races in the 200 and 400m that now rank him #2 in the league. Grace Koonmen (100m), Kismet Singh (100m hurdles) and Lily Anderson (100m hurdles) also added season bests. Davis Howard threw the discus an even 100'0" to up his personal record by 20 feet, ranking him #4 in the league. Tiffany Shou threw her season's best in her discus event.
Taking their largest team ever to this annual big meet, the Eagles came away with some fine marks. The girls 400m relay team of Grace Koonmen, Gloria Guo, Nikki Solanki and Alycia Cary broke their school record for the third time, lowering the mark by .5 sec with a 52.31 mark. The boys team of Angel Cervantes, Sameer Prakash, Mitch Granados and Anthony Contreras would have been close to the school record, but for one poor relay pass.Anthony came back and ran his personal best in the 400m; then came close to his best in the 200m. "AC" ran three outstanding races against the best in the CCS.
The boys 400m relay team won their event and again lowered their season best to 45.13; leading the league. Kismet Singh won the 100m hurdles in the 2nd best all-time Harker mark of 18.46; Nikki Solanki placed 5th out of 33 runners in the 100m dash, taking the #3 all time Harker mark in that event.
Anthony Contreras placed 2nd in both the 100m and 200m, setting a new personal best in the 100m; he remains ranked #2 in the league in these events. The Eagles placed 6 boy sprinters in the top 10 in the 100m.Grace Koonmen produced a huge leap in the long jump, improving her best by over one foot, jumping 15'10", taking over the #3 spot in the league standings. Tiffany Shou threw her lifetime best in the shot put and set a new Harker junior record. Davis Howard threw a lifetime best in the shot put, 38' 9", ranking him 3rd in the league.
Anthony Contreras qualified 2nd in both the 200m and 400m. Angel Cervantes qualified for the league finals with personal bests in both the 100m and 200m. Davis Dunaway qualified 4th in the 100m. Junior Varsity athletes Kismet Singh, Nikki Solanki, Lily Anderson and Zoey Rosa all qualified for the league finals in the 100m hurdles. Freshman Melanie Logue qualified for the JV 800m finals. Eric Fang placed 5th in the JV shot put with a 4 foot improvement. Grace Koonmen jumped into next Friday's final in the long jump.
