Camp Plus provides engaging and enriching morning academics focused on language arts, math and a variety of academic electives, led by our qualified, caring teachers. Afternoons offer dozens of activities and electives for students to explore additional interests in science, art, athletics and more.

Core Focus Academics

The morning is divided into two core subject areas plus one elective:

  • Language arts
  • Math
  • Chosen elective

Each subject will be taught for two weeks of the session.

  • Campers are skill-grouped.
  • Students will be challenged at and above grade level.
  • Placement is based on teacher recommendation
  • Weekly folders are sent home.
  • No report cards or grades are issued.

Electives

In addition to morning core language arts and math, campers participate in an academic elective period.

  • Elective courses are offered in a wide range of academic subject areas.
  • Campers choose two electives.

Summer Lunch | 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. | Explore

Lunch for an entire session is an option for full- and partial-day campers. Regular and vegetarian entrees are offered each day and menus are designed to provide healthy, nutritious options. All campers receive milk/juice and fresh fruit at lunchtime.

Group Time Activities (12-3:30 p.m.)

Grade 1-5 campers rotate during group time through a wide variety of activities. The individual group schedules are designed to match the interests of the particular group and to provide opportunities for new challenges. Older campers are offered more choice in their selections.

Field Trips

Field trips are scheduled by division and allow campers to leave camp and enjoy many local recreational experiences. Group leaders, counselors and camp directors provide supervision, and bus transportation is provided and organized by Harker's own transportation director to ensure camper safety. Weekly field trip updates and reminders are emailed to parents during the session.

Swimming

Swimming is included in the activities of full- and partial-day campers.

  • Trained and certified lifeguards and swim instructors are always on duty.
  • Campers are tested and grouped according to skill.
  • All skill levels are acceptable.
  • Campers in grades 1-3 receive swimming lessons.
  • Campers in grades 4-5 participate in a variety of aquatic activities.
  • Campers in grades 1-5 may choose free swim during special interest period (3:30-5 p.m.).

Special Interest Time (3:30-5 p.m.)

Full-day campers participate in daily special interest activities from 3:30-5 p.m. Campers choose afternoon activities from a long list of options. The special interest time gives campers the opportunity to make their own choices, play with friends outside their camp group and follow favorite camp staff to their special activities!

Partial Day Option

1-Week Session "Out 'n' About"

Out 'n' About is a very special way for campers to round out their summer and understand the benefits of helping others!

  • Campers are divided into age groups (K-1, 2-3, 4-5) and participate in a week full of age-appropriate games, lessons, activities and off-campus trips centered around service learning, team building, problem-solving and fun.
  • Each group will have a specific theme project and goal for the week.
  • Each group will take two field trips during the week related to their service projects. (Trip schedule and specific service projects will be posted soon).

  • 10:45 a.m.: Grade-level lessons, activities and service project work
  • 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.: Lunch/recess
  • 12:45-2:45 p.m.: Rotate through camp activities - each activity will teach or reinforce a skill or concept related to the theme project
  • 2:45 p.m.: Afternoon campfire, all groups meet
  • 3:30 p.m.: Snack
  • 3:45-4:45 p.m.: Extra special interest activities

Eligibility

Boys and girls entering kindergarten through grade 5 in fall 2018 are eligible. Campers must be at least 5 years old by Dec. 1, 2018, must speak and understand English at their grade level, and must provide a teacher recommendation from a current school to be eligible for our program. Academic classes in our K-5 program are designed as enrichment and not as remedial or accelerating programs. International students must complete an additional recommendation form and may participate in Camp Plus programs if they have strong English skills.
