Laura Lang-Ree has been a theater arts educator, with a specialty in musical theater, for over 15 years, as well as a vocal coach and choreographer of youth musicals. A director since high school, she received the Hugh Gillis Award for Excellence in Directing at SJSU. As a performer, Ms. Lang-Ree has held leading or supporting roles in over 50 productions, predominantly in the musical theater and light opera genres, with companies all over the Bay Area; she also studied for a season at the San Francisco Opera Workshop and is a frequent student at the A.C.T. Summer Acting and Performing Arts program and local dance studios. She continues to study voice and was recently a soloist and member of the popular local choir STOCTET; currently Ms. Lang-Ree fronts the Los Gatos/Saratoga Big Band.
Ms. Lang-Ree began the US Conservatory in 2000, and instituted the certificate program for students interested in deeper studies within the performing arts. In 2006, the musical theater department was nominated by American Musical Theatre of San Jose for the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, in a nationwide competition. Harker was one of approximately 40 schools selected (out of 1200 nominations) to attend the Fringe and their spring musical will perform there in summer 2007. Ms. Lang-Ree’s productions at the US have garnered several musical theater awards from AMT, including best musical, best critique, best male dancer, outstanding chorus and best supporting actress, as well as other top place theater and musical theater awards at the Ohlone Theater Festival during Harker’s ‘02, ‘04 and ‘06 entries.
Ms. Lang-Ree looks forward to helping to lead a dynamic Harker performing arts department to even greater achievements.
