Prior to joining Harker, Miriam Allersma spent six years as a postdoctoral fellow in the Biophysics Research Division and Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan. She also spent two years doing research funded by a National Institutes of Health Molecular Biophysics Teaching Grant; interned at Bellcore (now Telcordia Technologies); and was a NASA research fellow in the physics department at Northwestern University. She has taught numerous undergraduate-level physics courses and received the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award from the University of Michigan physics department, among other accolades. Dr. Allersma is an avid ultimate Frisbee player, and has competed at every level from local league to elite national level. She also coached at the collegiate (club) level for eight years, is a certified level I juniors’ coach and is a lifetime member of the Ultimate Players Association. She also enjoys surfing, biking, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, music, crafting and making delicious food to share.
