Lower School Curriculum
To provide the very best curriculum and learning opportunities for our students, subject specialists begin teaching in kindergarten, and subject departmentalization starts in grade 3 at Harker. Spanish is taught beginning in grade 1.
Outstanding faculty and small class sizes are Harker essentials. As a student’s maturity and talent evolves, Harker evaluates and determines the course placement that will best challenge and inspire each student to academic excellence without causing stress. No two students are alike, and Harker’s comprehensive teaching techniques, accelerated curriculum and support systems ensure a motivating and exciting learning environment for its students. Study skills are taught in grades 1-5 to prepare students for academic success.
Harker is a supportive and encouraging place, and we’re all working together for your child’s well being. We provide ample support through extra help, counseling, our buddy program and more to ensure each child’s happiness and success.
Performance, art and music are in the Harker curriculum from kindergarten onwards. Seeking the best tools to help students learn, Harker is an industry leader in infusing technology and information literacy skills throughout the curriculum. Inspiration and learning come from many sources. Our global education program, as well as field trips to stage productions, planetariums, museums and more provide students with additional experiences to spark their imaginations and expand their world.
