We are happy to share the Harker experience with you as you consider admission to The Harker School, and we invite you to explore our website to learn more about what we have to offer your child and your family. In this section you will find information about admission events, financial aid, and how to apply to Harker.

At Harker, students achieve their fullest potential through our inspiring learning environment, appropriately challenging curriculum and robust extracurricular programs and electives. Whether they are in kindergarten or the upper school, what every Harker student shares is a deep love for learning, and we nurture their passions and their character. How to Apply to Harker

Select the division you're applying for to view the steps of the application process and the required application forms.

Preschool

3- and 4-year-olds: Children turn 3 or 4 by December 1, 2017

Transitional Kindergarten (TK): Children born between July 1 and December 1, 2017. TK families have three options: you may apply for TK only, kindergarten only or TK/K.

TK is bridge between preschool and our traditional kindergarten program for children with late birthdays. A modified curriculum is used to further develop social and cognitive skills, and better prepare children for success in their future years of schooling.

Playdates

Register for playdates or classroom visit:

  • 3-year-old applicant playdates will be scheduled during the week of Feb. 13, once your application is complete.
  • 4-year-old applicant playdates will be scheduled individually based on space availability.
  • Transitional Kindergarten classroom visits are scheduled for January 21,2017.
  • All Transitional Kindergarten applicants must attend a classroom visit.

Your application is considered complete and will be reviewed by the admission committee when all supporting documents in addition to your biographical information and application fee are received.

Testing

Kindergarten & Grade 1

Schedule a cognitive assessment with one of our preferred licensed psychologists.

Register online for the classroom readiness evaluation to be given at Harker on Jan. 21 or 28. We recommend that you apply and register early for your preferred date.

Grades 2-5

We only accept the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) administered at Harker on Jan. 21 or Jan. 28. Submit your application and fee in order to receive your registration code. We recommend that you apply and register early for your preferred date on the ISEE website: http://www.iseetest.org .

Step 5

Submit Required Application Supporting Documents

Due Jan. 26, 2017

  • Photo
  • Parent statement
  • Cognitive Assessment report/results (must be received by Feb. 1, 2017)
  • One teacher recommendation form. Must be from the current classroom teacher. This form is completed and submitted to Harker directly by the student's current teacher. Parents delegate the recommendation form through the online Ravenna system. Teachers electronically submit forms through Ravenna. Directions are provided through your Ravenna account for easy online submission from your child's school and current teacher. Please give the teacher plenty of time to complete this recommendation before Jan. 26, 2017.
  • Transcripts for the academic year 2016-2017 (1st grading period-trimester or semester). Deliver the Transcript Release and Confidentiality Form to your child's current school. We understand if your school is on the semester system that grades may arrive after our application deadline of Jan. 26, 2017. Please submit them as soon as possible to complete your application for review. Kindergarten applicants can submit preschool reports if available.

Your application is considered complete and will be reviewed by the admission committee when all supporting documents in addition to your biographical information and application fee are received.

Middle School (6-8)

We accept the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) and SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) entrance exams.

Test results must be received by Feb. 1, 2017.

We recommend that you register early for your preferred test location and date on the ISEE or SSAT websites. You may take the exam at any testing site.

To register for the ISEE visit http://www.iseetest.org and use the Harker code is 054148. To register for the SSAT visit http://ssat.org and use our code 3711.

Harker will offer the ISEE as a closed testing site only for Harker applicants on Jan. 7 and Jan. 21, 2017. Submit your application and fee in order to receive your registration code. We recommend that you apply and register early for your preferred date on the ISEE website http://www.iseetest.org. Please note that registration will close three weeks prior to the testing date.

Step 4

Submit Middle School Application

Biographical information and application fee ($100) We will begin accepting applications on Oct. 3, 2016. Applications due Jan. 26, 2017.

Parents delegate the recommendation forms through the online Ravenna system. Teachers electronically submit forms through Ravenna. Directions are provided through your Ravenna account for easy online submission from your child's school and current teacher. Please give the teachers plenty of time to complete these recommendations before Jan. 12, 2017.
  • Transcripts for the academics years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 (1st grading period-trimester or semester). Deliver the Transcript Release and Confidentiality Form to your child's current school.   • Interview complete or scheduled. Those who attend a student campus visit at Harker will have an interview at the end of their visit day. Those who do not attend a campus visit have the opportunity to sign-up for a interview. Applicants from out of the area may interview using video conferencing.
  • Standardized test results received
